Undercover’s 30th Anniversary Collaborations with 5 legendary designers

Undercover is turning 30 this year and to celebrate the anniversary, designer Jun Takahashi has turned to some of his long-time friends in the Tokyo fashion scene. A list of legendary brands have signed up to offer their take on UC’s signature hybrid style with a series of leather sleeve down jackets with various mixed materials and detailing. Created in partnership with peers sacai, Kolor, Fragment design, TheSoloist and N.Hoolywood. The jackets all take a different tact to exploring the same style of garment. Sacai designer Chitose Abi gives her take on the trademark garment by bringing in elements of a knit riders jacket. Abe’s husband Junichi infuses elements of his brand Kolor’s style with a bright neon rendition. My favorite is the TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist collaboration which adds insane looking goggles and gloves to the piece.  N.HOOLYWOOD extends the length of the down jacket into with a parka-like body and hood. Fragment’s design is understandably understated with just a simple fragment logo hit on the back.

These should only be available directly through Undercover and they’ve posted some purchase information their website. The price range for these items range from  ￥140,000 JPY (approximately $1,356 USD) to ￥240,000 JPY (approximately $2,325 USD). Sacai Faux Shearling Knit Jacket

Sacai specializes in their mixed and matched look and in this case they fuse together a heavy shear ling fleece with wool knit sleeves. Three colorways of this fleece are available but my favorite has to be the cream-navy and green combo above. it’s tied together with some unique details from the striping on the sleeves and neck as well as a cupro lining. Two Side Pockets and one chest pocket and a 2 way zip closure. The funnel neck adds a touch of class to a decidedly outdoors aesthetic. Available at END.

Sacai x Pendleton GRIND Magazine Editorial

Sacai’s newest endeavor is a triple collab in tandem with heritage textile brand Pendleton and Dr.Woo. To properly showcase the collection, GRIND Magazine has teamed up with famed Japanese stylist stylist Masataka Hattori and actor Yōsuke Kubozuka. The deconstructed pieces utilize classic Pendleton fabrics to craft pieces including a military style jacket and denim-bomber hybrid jacket. Other standout items include wide-cut plaid trousers and a wool mockneck sweater. Look for items to drop from the collection at Sacai stockists including SSENSE and Farfetch.

GRIND Magazine Sacai SS18 Editorial

GRIND Magazine hit up actor and all-around fit god Yōsuke Kubozuka to model a selection of items from Sacai’s SS18 range. The collection mixes in streetwear influenced looks alongside some tailored pieces. One of the collection’s signature pieces is an all over print parka. Other items include denim and workwear-esque boots done in collaboration with Gender Scheme. There’s also more grown-up pieces in the range, such as a boucle oversized blazer and a white shirt with safety-pin detailing. Look for items online at Mr.Porter, Farfetch and other outlets.

Sacai FW15 Editorial in GRIND Magazine

Every now and then a designer creates one of their strongest collections. I feel that way about Sacia’s Fall/Winter 2015 men’s collection. Obscure and hard to find outside Japan, Sacai and head designer Chitose Abe has raised her profile internationally with a collaboration with Nike and an expanding womenswear distribution. GRIND Magazine plays with the nomadic vibe of the collection in this new editorial.

Best known for it’s classic take on the polo shirt, the brand is collaborating with the likes of visvim, Undercover, and sacai, COMME des GARCONS Junya Watanabe MAN and Kolor. Look for these polos limited quantities at 60 YEARS GALLERY located at Tokyo’s  Dover Street Market Ginza from April 2nd to April 25th.
