Sophnet FW13/14 Lookbook

Recent years have shown steady growth for Japan based label Sophnet. The brand has crept into more stores on both North American and European shores, surely part of the plan for Jun Co (who owns Sophnet, Uniform Experiment and F.C.R.B.).

The good news is that the Fall/Winter 2013/14 season is one of the strongest I’ve seen. Heavy on collaborations, the season features pieces designed in unison with Rocky Mountain Featherbed, Danner, Tricker’s, Spectus, Lee, FSF, Canada Goose and New Era. Stylistically the collection has a rugged modern vibe. The pieces look utilitarian without ever seeming too overwrought or overdesigned. Personal favorites for me are the vests, down jackets, and flannels but the whole thing is looking incredibly strong. While cooler weather may be months away, it might be wise to start saving for some investment pieces that you’ll get plenty of wear out of once fall hits.

Visvim FW13 “Dissertation On a Man with No Country Vol.2 ” Lookbook

Visvim continues  themes established over the past year for their Fall/Winter 2013 collection. The collection is styled with plenty of layering and tons of accessories, a continuation on the aesthetics of their Spring/Summer 2013. Some key items that return in fine form are the FBT and knit cowichan. I also have to give a shoutout to the amazing shearling coats in this lookbook. While this collection doesn’t break new ground for Visvim, it does re-iterate some of the recent strengths of the brand and offers a look at some staple investment pieces that can be worn for years to come.

Marie Bovo Bab-El-Louk Photo Series

Marie Bovo is a Marseilles based photographer  and artist. In 2006 Marie installed a camera on the rooftop of her building in the neighborhood of Bab-El-Louk in Cairo and took 10 photos  each day. The result is a compelling visual narrative that explores the circular passing of time. Throughout the series, buildings are constructed and decayed; obscuring the horizon throughout day and night. This is one of the first project she’s done focused around architecture as the main subject.

BoF Article ” The Gatekeepers of Japanese Fashion”

Photo: Undercover Aoyama As I’ve learned more about fashion, my personal tastes have gravitated towards many labels based in Japan. To me many Japanese brands appeal due to the quality of product, but also due to the unique perspectives that designers from there provide. Many Japanese labels have had little opportunity (or in some cases … Read more
